How They Did It: The Windmill

May 14, 2018

Clearly Automated customized the solution for the client’s needs without overdoing it, and picked up the CEDIA Award for Best Integrated Home, Level III (EMEA).

This 12,000-square-foot property is three floors with an open plan design. Clearly Automated was asked to design a system for the lighting control, blind and window control, internal and gate intercom, gate control, CCTV integration, distributed AV, and cinema room, all working from a simple, customized integration system.

With distributed audio required throughout the property, the top floor living spaces benefit from invisible Amina speakers and Velodyne in-wall subs for aesthetics and performance, while the middle floor features a 5.1 system. The ground floor demanded a quality, discreet audio solution, so a combination of a TV lift, integrated soundbar and invisible speakers were installed.

The client requested automated lights throughout the house, so Clearly Automated installed an occupancy sensor in each bedroom, which recalls a low-level scene upon entry and turns the lights off five minutes after leaving. The Lutron Pico FR remotes at each bedside provide simple control to open and close the blinds, and provide a night lighting scene when the owner gets up in the night. Lutron touchscreens offer more scene selections and control of individual lighting circuits.

A fixed acoustically transparent screen was specified for the home cinema to allow the Artcoustic Spitfire LCR channels to be hidden. The Sonance side and rear surrounds were recessed into the upholstered wall panels.
