How They Did It: Double Duty

California's Custom Home Technologies created this terrific finalist in the CEDIA® Awards (Home Theater, Level II).

Sound containment was a priority for this theater in the client’s winter home — the cinema’s next to a bedroom in the house. Sealing the perimeter of a pocket door and working with the architect responsible for this retrofit to find the right subwoofers for the space proved critical, and the homeowner was thrilled with the final result: A room that provided an excellent movie experience and easily doubled as an uncompressed-audio listening room.

A DPI Highlite 330 HB coupled with a native 1.78:1 screenwall with horizontal masking makes for a display that didn’t break the bank, and the audio gear followed suit: PRO 26im speakers biamped by PRO PMA amplifiers provided excellent sound from the front of the room while the rest of the equipment was specially chosen to deliver top performance in the room’s small, cozy footprint.

The room’s ready for an eventual 4K Ultra HD and 3D-sound upgrade, but in the interim, this aesthetic stunner provides a near-perfect cinematic and listening experience in a small and soundproof space.
