To show our appreciation for our volunteers, we turn the spotlight on them from time to time and learn what drives them day in and day out. Today, we meet volunteer Amanda Wildman of TruMedia in Ada, MI.
A volunteer since 2014, Wildman currently volunteers in support of the 2015 Business Working Group and as a CEDIA instructor.
Why do you volunteer?
Volunteering allows me to get involved and meet other people in the industry, and helps me to raise the bar for what I want to do in the industry.
What’s your favorite CEDIA memory?
Probably just the awesome camaraderie of the group. The group I'm involved in has been a team before, and I'm a newbie but they just welcomed me right in and they all joke with each other and have a great time. They value my feedback and have helped me to learn a lot more than I would have on my own.
What’s your advice for new volunteers?
Get involved. It can be scary or intimidating to be the newbie and you might think that you don't matter, but new blood gives a new perspective, and new perspectives help everyone in the industry to grow.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
As my mom would say, "The Three-Ring Circus Without a Tent!"
What songs are on the soundtrack to your life?
Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts, Keep Your Head Up - Andy Grammer, Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi, Look Like Love - Brit Nicole, Free to Be Me - Francesca Battistelli, Do Life Big - Jamie Grace, Mayberry - Rascal Flatts, Live Like That - Sidewalk Prophets, This is Who I Am - Third Day, Roar - Katy Perry, Brave - Sara Bareilles, When I See You Smile - Bad English, His Kind of Love - Group 1 Crew, Set the World on Fire - Britt Nicole, This is Home - Switchfoot, Unbreakable - Fireflight, Get Back Up - TobyMac, Faithfully - Journey, Let's Get Loud - Jennifer Lopez
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
Jewelry (a sapphire and diamond ring)
What would we find in your refrigerator right now?
Not much, but there's always Michigan Cider Beer and usually Mackinac Fudge or cookie dough ice cream in the freezer.
What is your favorite restaurant/color/sport/animal? Why?
Restaurant: Cracker Barrel. I love home cooking
Color: Hot pink. It makes me happy and it stands out.
Sport: Anything my kids are playing (volleyball, baseball, basketball, softball).
Animal: My dogs, Stella (Boston Terrier mix) and Letty (German Shepherd).
What phrase do you use the most?
“Y'all are makin' me CRAZY!”
What is your all-time funniest prank?
I don't usually pull pranks – I get them pulled on me all the time. I'm pretty gullible.
