Workshop Description

Virtually all technologies in the home are becoming part of the home network. In order to provide network systems that meet the increasing speed and reliability requirements, the home technology professional of today and tomorrow must be able to design, install, configure, and maintain a high quality, complex, and secure network.

CEDIA and Volutone have partnered to offer a series of networking workshops in 2015. The workshops will be offered at the Volutone Van Nuys, CA, San Diego, CA, and Las Vegas, NV locations. The CEDIA classes offered at the workshops are part of the pathway to mastering the network and earning the CEDIA Electronic Systems Certified Networking Specialist (ESC-N) Certification .

This is the third networking workshop in a series of three.

If you missed the first two workshops in this series you can still attend. Prepare by taking the recommended pre-requsite courses.  Information about these online classes is below.

9:00 a.m. - Noon
Remote System Access: Methods, Security & Best Practices (EST423) - CEU Value: 3.0
Repeat service calls cost time and money. With remote access capability and remote programming of control systems, these calls will no longer drain your resources. This class offers a hands-on approach to learning about the different methods of remote access available today, as well as proper implementation techniques. Learn about configuration, troubleshooting of remote access systems, and port forwarding and translation.

Before attending this class, students should have a working knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting, basic router configuration and port forwarding, how to troubleshoot using basic CLI commands, IP device configuration (change addresses, gateways, subnets, ports), and WAN/LAN basic routing principles.

Noon - 1:00 p.m. Lunch (included with registration)

1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Tailoring Network Performance with VLANs & QoS (EST443) - CEU Value: 3.0
This class focuses on advanced network performance tools used in residential networks as well as how to achieve optimal network performance when bandwidth is being used by multiple devices and programs.

Specific topics include: VLAN and Quality of Service (QoS) benefits; applications requiring VLAN or QoS; configuring VLAN tagging, port membership and trunking; and configuring QoS bandwidth, port, DSCP, and CoS.

Before attending this class, students should have a working knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting, router configuration, and encryption and security network design.
