
Suffolk County Requires a Restricted Electric License for Communication Cable Installers & Home Improvement License
Suffolk County License for Communication Cable Installers
Since 2000 in Suffolk County, a Restricted Communication Cable Installer license is required for any work below 90 volts. Qualifications for applicants for the license include:
- All applicants must be 21 years of age.
- All applicants must demonstrate at least five years of experience, in a ten year time span, in the trade for the license. Also, the applicant may take the exam for the trade he has applied for.
- The fee for a restricted license shall be $100. It may be renewed biennially upon payment of $200.
To qualify for the examination,documented proof of your experience must be submitted . The documentation may be presented in any form, but should include financial proof (W-2 form or tax statements), and notarized affidavits from present and past employers.
The exam consists of an open-book multiple-choice test covering the 2005 National Electrical Code and a practical exam.
All documents and a $25.00 non-refundable application fee must be included when you submit your application. Make check payable to Suffolk County Consumer Affairs.
Suffolk County Home Improvement License
Suffolk County Code requires anyone who does any home improvement work to have a license. Suffolk County Code requires that all applicants for a home improvement license must pass a written exam on the content of New York State General Business Law and Chapter 345 of Suffolk County Code.
An application for a Suffolk County Home Improvement Contractor’s License requires a non-refundable application fee of $25.00. After the office of Suffolk County Consumer Affairs reviews your application, you will receive written notification of the date and time of your examination.
