IDAHO HOUSE BILL 619 SCHEDULED FOR HOUSE COMMITTEE HEARING

Idaho House Bill 619 has been scheduled for a committee hearing on Thursday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. before the House Business Committee. The hearing will be held at the Idaho State Capitol in Room EW41.

SUMMARY OF IDAHO HOUSE BILL 619

House Bill 619 amends the existing law on the Idaho Electrical Board and information transport contractors, and states that it shall be unlawful for certain entities to act or attempt to act as an information transport contractor until having received a license.  The legislation establishes requirements for the licensure of contractors and technicians involved in the information transport industry.  Information transport systems include communication systems which include an electronic and/or structured cabling component beyond the utility service point.  These systems include telephone, audio-visual, sound, public address, intercom, radio/television, antenna systems, and data communications systems.   The legislation also expands the Idaho Electrical Board to include a seat dedicated to a representative from the industry.

This legislation is sponsored by the Idaho Telecommunications Coalition which has been working for over 4 years to correct past electrical legislation which did not properly support the low-voltage industry.  House Bill 619 is the end-product of the coalition and has been assigned to the Idaho House Business Committee.
