CEDIA Legislative Alert: Connecticut Senate Bill 1

Proposed Television Energy Efficiency Standards in Connecticut Senate Bill 1 will Impact your Business

Issue:

Connecticut Senate Bill 1, “An Act Concerning Connecticut’s Energy Future” continues to move through the Connecticut State Legislature. Provisions within S.B. 1 establish energy efficiency standards for certain consumer products and replicate the efficiency standards for televisions adopted by the California Energy Commission in November 2009.

As currently written, S.B. 1 would have a significant impact on the sale and installation of flat-panel displays.

What CEDIA is Doing

Throughout the Connecticut legislative session, CEDIA has been working with other industry stakeholders to address concerns in the legislation and its potential impact on the residential electronic systems industry.

CEDIA has provided written testimony in regards to the television energy efficiency standards outlined in S.B. 1, which can be viewed here.

CEDIA continues to work to educate legislators on how electronic systems contractors and manufacturers work daily to meet customers’ desire for energy-efficient homes through other solutions.

CALL TO ACTION: Add your company’s name to an industry letter

Next Steps

CEDIA has put together a Connecticut-based residential electronic systems industry letter to explain how the provisions within S.B.1 for energy-efficiency standards for televisions are unnecessary, and how the provisions would impact retailers and the industry. We strongly encourage you to add your name, company name and company location to these important industry letters.

For your review and consideration, please click here to read the letter which will be submitted to the Connecticut General Assembly Energy and Technology Committee and the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.
