Astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin to Keynote CEDIA EXPO Membership Breakfast
July 20, 2009 marks 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 lunar landing
INDIANAPOLIS (June 23, 2009)—The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has announced that astronaut Dr. Buzz Aldrin, who was part of the Apollo 11 crew that made the first manned lunar landing, will deliver the keynote speech at the 2009 CEDIA EXPO. Aldrin will address a crowd of CEDIA Members at the Annual Meeting & Membership Breakfast Fri., Sept. 11 at 8 a.m.
Aldrin was the lunar module pilot on the Apollo 11 mission, which landed on the moon July 20, 1969. He was the second person to set foot on the moon. He retired from NASA in 1972, and in 1998 founded the ShareSpace Foundation, which seeks to encourage space education and foster affordable space travel opportunities. Aldrin’s memoirs, entitled Magnificent Desolation, will be published in time for the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing this July.
“Dr. Buzz Aldrin’s speech will add an element of inspiration to this event,” said CEDIA EXPO Chair Jared Blackford. “His fascinating story will no doubt be a motivator for all of us.”
Aldrin has recently been featured on NBC’s Today Show and in the New York Times. In a recent New York Post op-ed entitled “Lost in Space,” Aldrin said: “While NASA went to the moon, it did so with the hopes, dreams, and the admiration of the people of Earth, who embraced the journey as an endeavor for humankind. We went to the moon, but it was a journey shared, and embraced by all.”
The Annual Meeting & Membership Breakfast is open to CEDIA Members only. Members can register to attend as part of their registration for CEDIA EXPO.
CEDIA EXPO 2009 will be held Sept. 9–13 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Registration is now open at www.cedia.org/expo. Early bird discounts on education and tradeshow access end July 15.
