CEDIA Releases Network Security White Paper
New document establishes best practices for electronic systems contractors (ESCs)
who are responsible for clients’ networks
INDIANAPOLIS (June 7, 2011)—The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has released a new white paper titled Network Security Best Practices. The document covers best practices for implementing wireless local area network (WLAN) security in a residential environment based on the IEEE 802.11x and 802.3 standards.
The Network Security Best Practices document covers network security in three parts: (1) Securing the router from WAN (Internet) attack; (2) Securing any wireless networks; and (3) Securing the LAN and individual devices. The document serves as a guide for electronic systems contractors (ESCs) who are responsible for their clients’ networks.
"As consumers continue to view digital content and connect a large number of IP-enabled products within their home, ESCs will increasingly be expected to understand the fundamentals of home networks," said CEDIA Senior Director of Technology Dave Pedigo. "This document will brief ESCs on the basics of network security as they continue to spend more time in this space."
Network Security Best Practices is available for download in the CEDIA Marketplace at www.cedia.org/marketplace along with previous white papers released by CEDIA. Each document is available free of charge for CEDIA members or priced at $9.99 for non-members.
The Network Security Best Practices white paper was developed by CEDIA’s Technology Council, which works to help CEDIA members identify opportunities surrounding emerging and future technologies. Additional white papers will be released throughout 2011.
