CEDIA Boot Camps Approved for Participation in GI Bill Benefit Programs
Veterans, active duty service members and members of U.S. military reserves may use benefits to cover course registration fees
INDIANAPOLIS (February 22, 2010)—The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association’s (CEDIA’s) EST Basic Residential Boot Camp and EST Home Theater Boot Camp have been approved for veterans eligible to receive Montgomery GI Bill benefits. The approval allows eligible veterans, active duty service members and reservists who receive education funding through the GI Bill to use those funds to cover the cost of CEDIA’s Boot Camps.
The training sessions have been approved by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs, State Approving Agency and by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at the federal level for participation in Veterans Affairs education benefit programs. CEDIA’s Certification program was also approved for participation in GI Bill benefit programs in 2008.
“The addition of CEDIA’s Boot Camp offerings to the list of approved programs opens the door for thousands of service members to begin gaining the skills and knowledge they need to establish a career in the electronic systems industry,” said Margaret Sheehan, CEDIA’s senior director of professional development.
In order to receive the benefits to cover the education costs, the eligible veteran or service member must complete an application form before registering for the course. Those eligible can find the application online at http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/How_to_Apply.htm or may call 1-888-GI BILL-1 to receive a copy by mail.
CEDIA’s Boot Camp events offer a three-day educational experience with both hands-on training and classroom learning. The EST Basic Residential Boot Camp, designed for new hires and those with less than one year in the electronic systems industry, covers the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to install low-voltage infrastructure in the home. The EST Home Theater Boot Camp provides a comprehensive overview of the home theater installation process and is intended for more advanced participants.
