CEDIA Releases Extended Display Information Data (EDID) White Paper

Document offers tips for resolving common issues by examining EDID

INDIANAPOLIS (April 1, 2011)—The Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has released its fourth document in a series of white papers on the topic of HDMI. The latest document, titled Understanding EDID, covers extended display information data, the data contained on each DVI display or HDMI sink.

The Understanding EDID white paper will familiarize electronic systems professionals with techniques for reading and emulating sink device capabilities from EDID. The paper also gives an overview of EDID on repeater devices and splitters and offers tips for resolving interoperability issues by examining the EDID.

Understanding EDID is available for download in the CEDIA Marketplace at www.cedia.org/marketplace along with the three previous installments in CEDIA’s HDMI white paper series: Introduction to HDMI, HDMI Installation Best Practices and HDMI Design and Initialization Sequence. Each document is available free of charge for CEDIA members or priced at $9.99 for non-members.

“The Understanding EDID document will help electronic systems professionals identify common problems and resolve interoperability issues that may arise with HDMI,” said CEDIA Senior Director of Technology Dave Pedigo.

The Understanding EDID white paper was developed by CEDIA’s Technology Council, which works to help CEDIA members identify opportunities surrounding emerging and future technologies. Additional white papers will be released throughout 2011.
