CEA and CEDIA Launch New Committee on Residential Systems

Committee To Begin Meeting in Early December

ARLINGTON, Va. (November 7, 2008) – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) are launching a new committee, R10 Residential Systems. The new committee will establish bulletins and standards for design and installation of residential systems. The new joint effort was approved by the Technology and Standards Council on October 21.

The R10 Residential Committee’s first project will be revising ANSI/CEA-2030 Multi-room Audio Cabling Standard, which provides a detailed blueprint for adding distributed audio to homes as well as ample graphics and charts with suggested set-ups. The group will also work on CEA/CEDIA Home Theater Recommended Practice: Audio Design. The first R10 call will be held in early December.

“This new committee will allow our members to be involved in the creation of bulletins and standards for design and installation of residential systems,” said Brian Markwalter, CEA vice president of technology and standards. “CEA’s Technology and Standards program has a proven track record of developing standards that provide the industry the tools to develop better products or services.”

“The development of the R10 Residential Committee provides CEDIA with an excellent opportunity to collaborate with CEA to develop a body of knowledge that truly encompasses the electronic systems integration industry.” said Dave Pedigo, CEDIA sr. director of technology. “The combination of CEA’s years of experience in writing standards and bulletins and the knowledge of CEDIA’s Technology Council grants the committee a strong foundation for both CEDIA and CEA members to benefit.”

The R10 Residential Committee will be co-chaired by Walt Zerbe, product manager, audio/video, Russound and Mario Leone, senior partner, Electronic Solutions Company. Participation in CEA Standards activities is open to companies and organizations with direct and material interest. CEA membership is not required to participate. To join a committee, please complete the form found at www.CE.org/Standards/1447.asp. For more information about the R10 Residential Committee, please contact Catrina Akers at cakers@ce.org.
