CEDIA Awards: Members Speak

Our members share with us the CEDIA® benefits they value the most; those that help their businesses thrive year after year. In this post, we focus on CEDIA’s Awards Program.

Every year, CEDIA honors its best at the annual CEDIA Awards, a celebration of technical excellence. The Awards events — held at locations in the UK, the U.S., and the Asia-Pacific region — honor winners in categories from a broad array of project types and price points. You can find the most recent winners in the 2017 edition of the CEDIA Awards Yearbook.

Sure, it’s great to recognized by one’s peers — but the cachet of a CEDIA Award stretches well beyond the satisfaction of being honored among one’s colleagues. When Dave Tkachuk was noted for a project he’d worked on with DC Home Systems, he put it this way right after leaving the CEDIA Awards stage: “It makes everyone entering these competitions strive for being the best, and that's what it's all about — giving everything they've got to provide the client all that they want and need.

Sam Cavitt, whose Paradise Theater picked up trophies at the 2017 Awards, noted that when his firm explains the Awards to potential clients, it actually helps close the deal: There’s a specific demographic that he caters to that desires the “best of the best.” “And we're very fortunate to have the opportunity to do that kind of work, and have clientele who want it,” he adds.

La Scala’s Mike Chorney finds internal and external benefits: “It's a morale booster for our staff AND it gives us credibility when we're talking to our clients.” Mike’s fellow team-member Kevin Hall adds: "The CEDIA Awards are great for us. When we’re meeting with clients, it’s great having them come into the showroom and see the awards that we've won and see the project pictures that we've taken specifically for the awards.”

And Giles Sutton of James+Giles sees the broad branding potential that comes with the hardware. “We put it in all of our marketing literature. It's on our website. We do a lot of PR around it.”
