How They Did It: Finesse and Function

Digital Residence’s clients were newly retired and ready to build their final “dream home.” From the surround sound system to the cohesive flow of the design – everything had to be perfect, and Digital Residence was ready to make that happen using the latest technology.

The team’s work was honored with CEDIA’s Best Integrated Home $100,000 and Under award at the 2015 CEDIA Awards.

Objectives

The clients were excited to build a home for relaxation and entertainment—a place where they could welcome friends and family—which is why it was vital their new systems be user friendly and easy to navigate. It was also important the installations didn’t diminish the modern beauty and style of the home, so Digital Residence got to work on strategizing an installation plan.

Overall Scope

To start, all hardware chosen had high-level control with RTI and Leviton, allowing the clients to use a single app to control all aspects of the system from any device – locally and remotely. To provide excellent sound with subtlety, the team installed a Stealth acoustics 5.1 system and used TV lifters to hide the devices when not in use.

Compensations

The TV lifters were of utmost importance. Without them, the clients would have large screens detracting from their incredible views. However, the team faced a challenge during installation when they realized the lifters were too large to fit into the TV cabinet. To fix the problem, the lifters were installed below the floor, which required engineering of the floor system and additional floor supports.

Calibrations

The main living room was equipped with an automatic room correction receiver, which provided a significant difference in sound quality once the room was completed and all furniture was in place.

The Digital Residence team tailored the system to the client and their lifestyle, ensuring no part of the system would be wasted.
