Certification @ EXPO
At EXPO 2010 you'll have the opportunity to take CEDIA Certification exams. Find out what you need to do to get certified, and browse the schedule for the best time to take a certification exam at EXPO.
Step 1: Decide What Certification is Right for You
ESPA Certified-EST® - 0 – 12 months of experience :
- Pre-EXPO: ESPA Certified-EST® Online Review (take it before the show!) Visit www.espa.org for details.
- September 22 - 26: Participate in CEDIA University’s 100 and 200 level EST courses.
- September 24: An ESPA Certified-EST® Review session will be offered onsite at EXPO.
- This certification does not meet the CEDIA Membership Requirement
CEDIA Electronic Systems Technician II - 12 – 36 months of experience :
- Pre-EXPO: Study the CEDIA Electronic Systems Technical Reference Manual. The manual may be purchased at www.cedia.org/marketplace.
- Pre-EXPO: Take CEDIA e-Learning courses in the EST College. CEDIA offers both on-demand and instructor-led delivery of content. This summer, EST200, Electronic Systems Technician Workshop, will be delivered in an e-Learning format for the first time.
- September 23: Attend CEDIA University’s course EST200. This course will give you an overview of the skills you need to take your career to the next level, serving as a good starting point for pursuing ESTII.
- September 22 - 25: Attend 200 – 300 level EST core curriculum courses and Learning Lab sessions. Sign up for the CEDIA Learning Lab EST Skill Challenge and see how you compare against other technicians.
CEDIA Electronic Systems Technician III (Advanced EST) - 36+ months of experience :
- Pre-EXPO: Study the CEDIA Electronic Systems Technical Reference Manual. The manual may be purchased at www.cedia.org/marketplace.
- Pre-EXPO: Participate in CEDIA University e-Learning courses in the EST, ESD, and ESPM Colleges. The CEDIA Certified EST III JTA shows a variety of courses from the five CEDIA University Colleges that support the knowledge and skills tested in the EST III certification exam.
- September 22 - 25: Attend 300 – 400 level EST core curriculum courses (see page 37-38) as well as ESD and ESPM core curriculum courses.
CEDIA Electronic Systems Designer - 36+ months of experience :
- Pre-EXPO: Study the CEDIA Electronic Systems Technical Reference Manual. The manual may be purchased at www.cedia.org/marketplace.
- Pre-EXPO: Participate in CEDIA University e-Learning courses in the ESD, EST, and ESPM Colleges. The CEDIA Certified Designer JTA shows a variety of courses from the five CEDIA University Colleges that support the knowledge and skills tested in the Designer certification exam.
- September 22 - 25: Attend 300 – 400 level ESD core curriculum courses (see page 26-27) as well as ESPM and EST core curriculum course.
Be sure to survey the outlines of exam content (the classification systems). These documents are posted for each certification on the corresponding page of our website.
Step 2: Take the Pre-Test Assessment
Pre-test Assessments are available for the EST III (Advanced EST) and Designer Certification exams. The Pre-test Assessment will give you a score report broken down by exam domain (the exam sections which are presented in the outline of exam content). You will be able to see your current strengths and weaknesses. This tool will allow you to better determine your course of study and help you decide if you are prepared to take a certification exam.
Step 3: Decide Your Course of Study
CEDIA University offers classroom education throughout the year at various locations. A complete listing of 2009 events is now available. Online education is also available through CEDIA University’s e-Learning program. CEDIA currently offers a classroom review for the ESPA Certified-EST® Certification exam only.
EST III (Advanced EST) and Designer Exam candidates may also apply to participate in the ‘Ask the Expert’ webinars.
Step 4: Register for the Exam
Register to take the exam in the Online Testing Center at EXPO! Get immediate results when you take an exam in the Online Testing Center, room B-403. Open September 24-25, exam sessions start at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Pre-registration is available. A limited number of written exam sessions will also be available. Pre-registration is required for written exams. CEDIA exams can also be taken throughout the year at one of our proctored testing locations. Certification Online Testing Center
Get immediate exam results! Take your exam in the Online Testing Center, room B-403, at EXPO. Register for any time slot and take the exam of your choice.
CEDIA exams available:
- EST II (US & Canada): three-hour session
- EST III (Advanced EST) (US only): three-hour session
- Designer (US & Canada): four-hour session

Fee: $250 CEDIA member / $350 non-member (USD)
Check-in will begin 30 minutes prior to each session. You must have a valid photo-ID and EXPO badge. Exam selection will occur after you have logged-in at your terminal in the Online Testing Center. Candidates must have completed the applicable pre-test assessment to be able to register for an exam.
A limited number of terminals will be held for onsite registrations. Visit the Online Testing Center, room B-403, to register onsite. Attendees who register onsite will have to immediately take the exam. Onsite registration hours are 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday during EXPO.
No refunds on certification exam fees will be given. Cancellation requests must be made in writing prior to September 1, 2010. Please see the CEDIA Certification exam refund policy on page 49.
