Electronic Systems Technician Basic Residential Boot Camp

New to the industry? Acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to get started in the residential electronic systems industry with EST Basic Residential Boot Camp. Many CEDIA professionals began their careers in EST Basic Residential Boot Camp and then used the skills they learned to build a foundation for a successful career as a technician, designer, or even business owner. Updated to address the most current trends and standards in residential infrastructure, this popular training session is just as intense as ever.

This comprehensive three-day session includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training in a lab that emulates residential new and retrofit construction. Lab work is then evaluated for performance.

The combination of classroom time and hands-on lab training allows focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to install low-voltage infrastructure in the home. EST Basic Residential Boot Camp provides students with the chance to perform typical installation tasks in a real jobsite environment.

Electronic Systems Technician Home Theater Boot Camp

Take your technician skills to the next level with EST Home Theater Boot Camp (formerly Advanced Boot Camp). CEDIA’s EST Home Theater Boot Camp (previously known as EST Advanced Residential Boot Camp) is an advanced, three-day workshop offered at CEDIA’s Indianapolis Training Facility.  This course provides a comprehensive overview of the home theater installation process, which includes several hours of hands-on lab activities. 

 

The goal of this specialized training is to provide the attendee with the knowledge and skills necessary to properly install, setup, and calibrate a typical home theater or media room system. Participants should already have a basic knowledge of the home theater concept and the equipment needed to deliver the cinema experience. Upon completion of the course, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the digital and analog signals and formats currently used in audio and video systems and how they are processed and used within the system

  • Describe the function of various audio and video interconnects

  • Understand the basics of room acoustics, acoustical treatment, and sound transmission issues

  • Install components in a professional rack configuration, taking into consideration thermal management and ergonomics

  • Utilize proper documentation and labeling of the installation

  • Install and mount a projector, flat panel display, and loudspeakers according to recognized industry standards (CEDIA Technical Reference Manual and CEA/CEDIA Recommended Practices)

  • Perform basic audio and video calibration to ensure optimum system performance

  • Audio and speaker setup and 5.1calibration

Learning Labs

Camps, Learning Labs allow technicians to apply the techniques they learn in the classroom in a lab environment. CEDIA Learning Lab sessions are provided at EXPO and other select locations throughout the year. When the Learning Lab is part of the offered course, CEUs are earned for the lab session in addition to course CEUs. One of the newer CEDIA initiatives that helps CEDIA Members continue to thrive despite changing market conditions, the Survival of the Fittest program provides free business webinars designed and moderated by subject matter experts.
