CEDIA Committees, Councils and Action Team Descriptions


Affiliate/Associate Council

The Affiliate/Associate Council will involve and utilize all member levels.  They will be a sounding board between the CEDIA members and the Board of Directors to help maintain communication. 

Manufacturers Action Team

The Manufacturers Action Team works closely with the Board of Directors to continue the relationship between the electronic systems contractor and the manufacturer. This Action Team looks for ways to promote the manufacture through EXPO, CEDIA education and other CEDIA/Industry related venues.

 

Sales Representatives Action Team

The Sales Representatives Action Team uses its members’ unique position in the industry to foster the manufacturer/electronic systems contractor relationships by opening communication lines, thereby enhancing CEDIA’s value as a resource to its membership.

Professional Services Action Team
Members of the Professional Services Action Team are established professionals offering services, which enhance the prosperity of our regular, associate and affiliate members.  Professional Services members specialize in a variety of services; including, consulting, programming, design, marketing, engineering, public relations, education, strategic planning, legal, accounting and analysis.  Members of the Professional Services Action Team must be current CEDIA members in good standing and exemplify the same accepted ethical standards required of regular CEDIA membership; and, are subject to the same review by the CEDIA Board, the CEDIA Ethics Committee and other relevant CEDIA entities. The existence of the Professional Services Action Team is designed for the contribution of the various consultants’ capabilities to the other members of CEDIA and also for the enhanced prosperity of the Professional Services members of CEDIA.


CEDIA University Education Council

The CEDIA University Education Council provides exceptional education services to professionals, which is conducive to the growth of the CEDIA members’ businesses and the custom installation industry.  The Education Council oversees all aspects of CEDIA education.

Education Content (Deans) Action Team

The Education Content Action Team determines objectives and deliverables of CEDIA’s education programs, and helps select curriculum.  The team also develops the format for education programs, keeping in mind the CEDIA University concept.

Management Conference Action Team

The Management Conference Action Team provides a world-class management development experience for CEDIA business owners and managers.  The team is responsible for the creation of the format and venue for the conference, as well as for determining conference objectives and deliverables.

Instructor Pool Action Team

The aim of CEDIA University education is to ensure that students receive the highest quality education, which must start with professional instructors. CEDIA certified instructors are volunteers who have been identified as experts in some aspect of the custom electronics field and as an asset to the association. In order to maximize their effectiveness in the classroom, CEDIA Certified Instructors must participate in a day-long course which focuses on the fundamentals of adult education. The end result of the CCI program is to enhance student engagement and amplify subject retention in the classroom.


Certification Council

The Certification Council oversees the CEDIA Professional Certification Program, which maintains a valid, credible and reliable national certification system based upon a sound structure and quality standards.  The council oversees the development and creation of tests and curriculum, as well as the appointment of SME’s (Subject Matter Experts) for each level of certification exam.

Plan Assessment Action Team

The Plan Assessment Action Team is responsible for an annual review of the certification roadmap.  The Plan Assessment Action Team will diagnose problems and prescribe possible solutions.   The Plan Assessment Action Team will also verify that CEDIA University curriculum fully supports certification exams.   This action team is comprised of the Certification Council Chairman, the Education Council Chairman, the Technology Council Chairman, the Content Action Team Chairman, the ESB Chairman, the ESCR Chairman, the ESD Chairman, the ESPM Chairman, the EST Chairman.  This group will work closely with CEDIA Certification and Education staff. 

 

Continuing Education Units Action Team
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Action Team is responsible for developing and updating continuing education unit requirements for the certificate holder in order to maintain their CEDIA certification.  The CEU action team will review and approve CEU applications after they have been processed by CEDIA Certification Staff.

Product Review Action Team

The Product Review Action Team is responsible for an annual content review of all certification products.  The Product Review Action team will be responsible for reviewing and updating content so that it accurately reflects the most current state of the industry. 



Industry Events and Outreach Council

The Industry Events and Outreach Council is responsible for promoting CEDIA globally through various trade shows, education venues and seminars that provide individuals with information, instruction and expertise on the custom installation industry.

 

EXPO Action Team

The CEDIA EXPO Action Team is charged with providing a world class event for the manufacturing community to utilize as the marketing channel to reach the residential electronic systems contractor.  Equally important is to offer a comprehensive educational product for all experience levels in the custom electronic design and installation industry.

Global Programs Action Team
The ISA Action Team is charged with promoting the CEDIA brand in Europe and Asia.  Specific areas to be addressed are CEDIA membership benefits, CEDIA certification and various expertise levels of CEDIA curriculum.

Electronic Lifestyles® Forum Action Team
Individuals on this team will help identify keynote speakers, concepts, ideas, education and all aspects of this event, in collaboration with CEDIA staff.  Support, VIP programs, social/networking functions and event objectives will be included on this team’s list of planning responsibilities.

Industry Outreach Education Action Team
This team will be charged with identifying, developing, and submitting educational courses for appropriate industry partner organizations for inclusion in their respective continuing education curriculum.  Coordinating these details with CEDIA staff, “subject matter experts” will be identified and all continuing education units and requirements will be addressed.

Marketing/Industry Partner Development Action Team
Coordinating efforts with CEDIA staff, this team will offer input on Industry Outreach marketing and partner development to include but not limited to print, website, e-mail, and industry expert assistance.  Article writing, editing and speaker/panelist data will also be a part of this team’s responsibilities.

Registered Outreach Instructor (ROI) Program Action Team All elements of CEDIA’s ROI program will be included within this team’s responsibilities, in coordination with CEDIA staff.  Curriculum, identifying new courses, evaluation, renewal of instructors, and all aspects of this program will be dealt with by this team.

Outreach Representation Action Team
This group will be made up of individuals responsible for representing CEDIA in various regions of the country.  Positioned as an extension of CEDIA staff, this team will be responsible for developing opportunities with industry partner organizations located in their geographic regions and planning/attending special events that further the Outreach mission.

Electronic Lifestyles® Awards Action Team
The awards action team works closely with staff to enhance and improve the Electronic Lifestyles awards competition. This action team is responsible for the overall program and judging of the competition.

Membership Council

The Membership Council is charged with providing a high level of consistent value to all CEDIA members, and to continue expanding and recruiting the industry’s finest members specializing in custom installation. The Council recommends the criteria for membership and accepts applications in accordance with the bylaws of the association and the code of ethics. The Council fosters volunteerism and mentors volunteers to serve on committees, task forces, action teams and councils. The Council provides a legislative advocacy to promote public awareness, industry growth, and the betterment of CEDIA member companies. The Council assists in membership campaigns and the overall promotion and development of CEDIA through active synergy with all other CEDIA councils.

Membership Requirements Action Team

The Membership Requirements Action Team recommends the criteria for membership and is charged with developing and implementing the “Rising Bar” CEDIA Membership Requirements program. This Action Team is responsible for enforcing current membership requirements and creating and implementing plans to recruit new members.

Industry Best Practices Action Team

The Industry Best Practices Action Team currently works with the Membership Requirements Action Team to develop membership requirements. This team is responsible for conducting a member survey to seek out and determining the best internal practices that produce a superior company. By identifying how other companies perform the same functional task or objective, companies can gain insight and ideas they may not otherwise achieve. The goal is to determine different levels of benchmarking that will provide valuable assistance for companies of all sizes and to provide new and old companies a road map on how to grow their companies in an organized fashion.

Government Affairs & Public Policy

The Government Affairs & Public Policy Action Team is responsible for developing, monitoring and disseminating information regarding legislative or regulatory rulings affecting the electronics integration industry. Furthermore, the Government Affairs & Public Policy Action Team is responsible for developing public policy strategies that promote an infrastructure of proactive public awareness and model language and urges state and federal policy makers to create legislation that is conducive to the growth of the custom electronics integration industry, for the betterment of CEDIA Member companies.

Volunteer Development Action Team

The Volunteer Development Action Team will foster volunteerism from the first time volunteer to the seasoned veteran. This Action Team is charges with mentoring a healthy active pool of volunteers, able and willing to support CEDIA committees, task forces, action teams, and councils. This process will also help the executive committee identify talented volunteers with the abilities to serve on the Board of Directors of CEDIA.



Technology Council

The CEDIA Technology Council will identify new business opportunities and risks for CEDIA members created by emerging and future technologies.  This will be a forum for awareness innovation and action.

Discovery Action Team

The discovery team’s mission is to gather information on trends and future technologies within the custom electronics industry. The main areas of interest will include blog watching and monitoring of RSS information feeds, participation in existing and creation of new SIGs, attending and reporting from various trade events, as well as reading and posting information from trade publications and references. The other critical mission of the discovery team is to get inside the R&D departments of the leading technology developers worldwide. The inside look into the future will help CEDIA adequately prepare their membership for the future now.

Applied Information Action Team

The goal of the applied information action team is to collaborate with multiple industry subject matter experts and manufacturers to develop and publish standards, best practices and technical white papers. Once a CEDIA standard or multiple standards are written, courseware and examination processes should be streamlined and thus reduce future development cost.  Best practices, codes and standards will also build consensus in the industry, an important need that had not yet been fully addressed.

Public Relations Action Team

The goal of the PR action team is to recruit subject matter experts proficient in various topics who can guide the CEDIA PR department when requests from the press come in. The public relations action team will develop a list of volunteers qualified to conduct “Executive Walkabouts” with VIPs at various CEDIA events. As an integral part of CEDIA’s branding initiative, the Technology Council will raise awareness in the mainstream media of CEDIA’s role as the “voice of authority” on complex matters within the custom electronics market.

Wiki Action Team

The goal of the Wiki action team is to create a project management intranet. Next develop members only extranet for members to communicate among themselves and manufactures. Then implement a public internet regarding our industry with accurate information, and finally create profound and new opportunities for increased efficiency in all areas of CEDIA operations.

CEDIA Lab Action Team

The goal of the CEDIA lab action team is to collect data from students participating in hands-on CEDIA Boot Camps. As the blogs and forums take shape, the Technology Council will use the lab to verify both problems and solutions that are being discussed. The scope of the CEDIA lab will be explored in more depth within the next 6-12 months.
