Designer Awards

 

Requirements for All Photos

  • Required photos must be professionally shot.
  • Required photos must be a minimum of 8” x 10” at 300 dpi or higher resolution (i.e., a minimum of 2400px x 3000 px).
  • To avoid recognition of the entrant and/or client, no people should appear in the photos.
  • Company names/logos and client names must be removed from all images (using photo editing software if needed).
  • Required photos must be uploaded during the entry process.
  • Accepted file formats: .tif and .jpg.

 

Photo-Editing Restrictions

  • Do not use insets in any photos (see examples of insets to avoid: 1, 2, 3).
  • Basic photo editing for attributes such as color balance, brightness, cropping, etc., is acceptable.
  • Inserting a movie still or photo into the display screen is acceptable.
  • Photo editing to remove or obscure information that could identify the client or entrant is acceptable.
  • Manipulating or altering images in a way that has the potential to mislead judges about the nature of the project is unacceptable and may result in disqualification.

 

Additional Photos (Optional)

The judges will accept additional photos outside of the required shots for each category if you wish to provide additional photos (optional). Additional photos do not have to be professionally shot and can be low-resolution. Additional photos can be submitted by mailing a CD, DVD or USB flash drive containing the photos to CEDIA Headquarters, Attn: Awards Competition, 7150 Winton Drive, Suite 300, Indianapolis, IN 46268. CD/DVD or flash drive must be labeled with entry code obtained during the online submission process.

Home Theater

  • Proscenium Shot (taken from back of room looking at screen)
  • Reversal Shot (taken from front of room looking at seating)
  • Front Equipment Shot (shot of main equipment cabinet or rack)
  • Back Equipment Shot (if you are unable to access this area to capture the photo, the entry may be penalized during the judging process)
  • User Interface Shot (judges prefer one image showing four sample screens; see desired example here)
  • Speaker Placement Shot (if speakers are in-wall, please submit a photo of where they are located and also include a drawing of the speaker placement in the engineering documents; see desired examples here)

 

Integrated Home

  • Back Equipment Shot (if you are unable to access this area to capture the photo, the entry may be penalized during the judging process)
  • User Interface Shot (judges prefer one image showing four sample screens; see desired example here)
  • Four (4) photos of various rooms throughout the home (photos that illustrate the project and show the system components are preferred in order to give judges the best possible visual understanding of the system)

 

Media Room

  • Two different photos showing the overall room & layout
  • Front Equipment Shot (shot of main equipment cabinet or rack)
  • Back Equipment Shot (if you are unable to access this area to capture the photo, the entry may be penalized during the judging process)
  • User Interface Shot (judges prefer one image showing four sample screens; see desired example here)

 

Hidden Installation

  • One photo showing the hidden installation
  • One photo showing the hidden installation in use
  • One photo of the hidden components in transition
  • One photo the ESC’s choice image that shows additional information about the installation

 

Special Project

  • Three photos of the entrant’s choice that best capture the nature of the project. These images should focus on the electronic components of the installation.

 

Sustainable Lifestyle Installation

  • Four photos selected by the ESC showing sustainability-focused aspects of the home/project
  • User Interface Shot (judges prefer one image showing four sample screens; see desired example here)
  • Front Equipment Shot (shot of main equipment cabinet or rack)
  • Back Equipment Shot (if you are unable to access this area to capture the photo, the entry may be penalized during the judging process)

 

Showroom

  • Six photos that best represent your showroom and illustrate what makes it unique

Best New Product and Sustainable Lifestyle Product Innovation

  • One (1) high resolution photo displaying the front of the product
  • One (1) high resolution photo displaying the back of the product

 

Product Hall of Fame

  • One (1) photo or rendering displaying the front of the product
  • One (1) photo or rendering displaying the back of the product
  • All photos of the product must be that of the original version of the product, not upgraded or current versions
