The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to some of the basic math skills and industry terms that an entry-level EST will need as a foundation for a career in residential A/V and automation. This course will familiarize technicians with the steps for solving, utilizing and applying these skills in determining surface area, determining impedance loads, determining right angles, determining power usage, determining projector throw distance, and determining the primary viewing distance from screen. Participants will learn to work with Ohm's law, basic algebraic, electrical theory in regards to signal quality, as well as English and Metric units of measurement, which directly relate to the custom electronic systems industry.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify industry related Math concepts and terminology
  • Interpret Metric & English Unit system conversions
  • Utilize electrical theory to calculate signal integrity over various cables
  • Calculate voltage, current, resistance, and power using Ohm's law
