FBI Expert, Frank Abagnale to Deliver Keynote Speech at CEDIA EXPO 2007

Author, FBI aide and subject of the major motion picture, “Catch Me if You Can,” to share his story

INDIANAPOLIS (July 30, 2007) — Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world. Approximately 11.8 million Americans, or one in twenty adults, have been victimized by identity theft as of April 2003, according to Star Systems research. The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) will welcome keynote speaker Frank Abagnale, reformed thief and now respected authority on identity theft and other forms of fraud, to the CEDIA EXPO 2007 Opening Keynote Breakfast. The breakfast will be held on September 6, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Abagnale is one of the world’s most respected authorities on the subjects of forgery, embezzlement, and secure documents. For more than 25 years, he has lectured to and consulted with hundreds of financial institutions, corporations and government agencies around the world. However, Abagnale’s respected position in the FBI did not begin so glamorous and esteemed.

His unusual blend of knowledge and skill began as a teenager. Between the ages of`16 and 21 Abagnale successfully masqueraded as an attorney, an airline pilot, a pediatrician and college professor, and he passed bad checks worth over $2.5 million dollars in 26 countries.

Following the six years of successful criminal escapades, Abagnale was finally caught and imprisoned. However, after serving five years of his term he was released under the condition that he would aid the government, without compensation, by lecturing and assisting federal law enforcement agencies.

Abagnale’s story outlined in his book, "Catch Me If You Can,” inspired film maker Steven Spielberg to produce the motion picture movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Abagnale.
